AROYO SCHOOL PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Project Location

Aroyo village is located in the Eastern bank of Chel River of Aweil Center County of Northern Bahar Gazhal State of South Sudan. The population of Aroyo is about 17,300. The Aroyo people composed of two tribes, the Luo and Dinka Malual. Over 95% of the population lives under poverty line of less than 1 dollar per day per person. The people depend on agriculture and livestock as source of livelihood and with effect of climatic change, both livestock and agriculture productions have diminished to the lowest level. This situation increased vulnerability and a need for humanitarian assistance. As a result, many children have had only one meal per day, a situation that affected education. Only 1081 (25%) of 4,325 primary school age children of Aroyo are accessing education and parents have often stated that their children do not enroll to school due to hunger, illness and lack of cash. The other problems affecting education in Aroyo include the lack of awareness on the importance of education. Finally, the lack of Christian moral education and child labor employment are also a contributing factor.

In 2013, HVO through Nehemias funds and supports; established nursey and primary school, and planted a church in Aroyo. The community welcomed the mission and provided land of 600x1200 meters for constru ction of a church and a school.
